Released on the 1st of November, ‘Demonstration’ is British rapper Tinie Tempah’s sophomore album. Going with a more electric and live feel compared to his 1st album (Disc-Overy), Tinie continues his streak of making songs with catchy choruses and infectious verses. The album comes with a slew of guest stars including: Emeli Sande, Labrinth, Ella Eyre, Paloma Faith, 2 Chainz, Big Sean and more. Although not good as his debut album, Demonstration still has a few tracks worth mentioning, such as: ‘Someday (Place in the Sun)’, ‘Children of the Sun’, ‘Lover not a Fighter’, ‘A Heart can Save the World’ are just a few tracks that stand out on this album, the other tracks are pretty much fillers but it’s what you expect nowadays with music. This album is no classic but is a pretty good album to listen to in your spare time. There is no denying Tinie has skill in making songs infectious with his super fast lyrics and catchy voice, but this album is not quite up to scratch. 7/10
Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom is the 2013 biopic about the life of former South African president Nelson Mandela, who earlier passed away this year on the 5th of December 2013. The trailer details what the film will deal with in how Mandela rose up to challenge the apartheid that was dividing South Africa, also dealing with his 27 year prison stay and his family. The trailer also focuses on Nelson Mandela himself, played by Idris Elba, he steal every scene with a very convincing portrayal of Mandela, layered with a thick South African accent that eerily sounds like Nelson Mandela himself. The film will be released in the UK on January the 3rd 2014.
On the 5th of December 2013, the world lost one of it’s greatest revolutionaries in Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela… He spent a great time of his life in prison, but would die for his ideals, and was therefore instrumental in dismantling the apartheid that separated the coloured people from the white people in South Africa. He went on to become the president of South Africa in 1994 before stepping down in 1999. He was a guiding light in the world but lucky for us he spread enough light to last us a lifetime… RIP Mr. Mandela
This past Saturday, American actor Paul Walker, remembered for portraying street racer Brian O’Connor in The Fast and the Furious film series, lost his life in a car crash. His death shook the world of Hollywood and served a costly reminder of how short life really is. A tribute video was made by his co-stars and Universal (the distributors of the Fast and the Furious film series) highlighting his best moments from the 6 of the 7 films he appeared in. Rest In Peace Paul.
I know I’m about 12 years too late but I recently watched Donnie Darko. I was pleasantly surprised how dark and challenging it is to typical Hollywood films that are rolled out. It leaves you guessing as to what is happening within the movie and what a giant rabbit is doing there… yes, a giant rabbit! Released in 2001 the film tells the story of Donnie Darko, a teenage boy who has mysterious visions of a man dressed as a rabbit, telling him to do certain things which Donnie does in his sleep. The film is one of Jake Gyllenhaal’s first movies and he plays the part of a troubled teen to perfection. 9/10
I finally got my hands on a PlayStation 4 on launch day! While I was visibly excited just seeing the shiny box it came in, I couldn’t wait to open it up, plug it in and see what it could do. The sheer speed of the set up was fantastic, I was thinking it might take a while for it to set up before I could play a game, but I was wrong, within 10 minutes I was winning in a game of FIFA 14. The machine is powerful yet quiet, you could hear a pin drop, is how quiet this machine is, it is also very small and light compared to the launch edition of the PS3 I had. It is also a nice thing to look at (as far as consoles go), the two tone black colour is a nice touch and the slanted design makes it imposing within my bedroom. I am still waiting for one more game to come in the post, but so far I am not disappointed! 10/10
The PS4 was released in North America last Friday, a European release follows on the 29th, while the Playstation’s main competitor, the Xbox One was released worldwide today. The PS4 was released with record breaking sales, crossing the 1 million mark within a few days, while the Xbox was also greeted with similar encouragement. There are limited launch games available at the moment, with many more titles coming soon to follow in 2014, such as; Watch Dogs, Driveclub (a PS4 exclusive), The Crew etc. Both consoles have received a generally positive response from the professionals and gamers at home, however the full potential is yet to be realised as we need the full array of titles to determine the better console. The PS4 is aimed at a more hardcore gamer’s audience, while the Xbox One is aimed to be a more all-in-one entertainment system. What is certain for now is that next generation gaming is here… well, nearly!
So recently, Disney bought the rights of Star Wars from George Lucas, and their plans to restart the franchise with a brand new film planned to be released in 2015… Now the die-hard fans are split down the middle, with reactions ranging from happiness at the release of a new film, “Yay, can’t wait! It’s gonna be awesome”… Yeah, a bit too excited there. Other reactions are enraged that their beloved franchise is being exploited and used to reel in the cash, “can’t believe Disney have the nerve to do this, it’s unbelievable”, well you better believe it honey, cos it’s happening… in 2015. I don’t know about you but I’m puzzled about Disney’s motives here, are they doing this to please the people? or just exploiting a beloved franchise just to reel in the money?… yeah, it’s probably the latter option… Anyways enough negativity, I’ll still be watching it, grew up watching all the films so why not? How bad can it be? Did I just jinx it? Is the whole idea of ‘reboots’ a bit pastiche now?
The elephant in the room… well on the computer screen anyway! Internet memes have been around for a while now, ranging from the one I have attached to this post to posts such as: former FC Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola pinching his fingers together with the caption reading, “THIS LITTLE the amount of success Real Madrid have had since I arrived”. This is the general rule of internet memes, it can be true or false but just has to be ironic and funny. There are thousands of internet memes being churned out each day with current events serving the topic of a brand new internet meme. Internet memes have come along so far that there are internet memes criticising INTERNET MEMES!… Aaaahhhh what a world we live in.
